Sonoma Land Trust welcomes Kevin Krasnow as its first Senior Scientist. A forest and wildfire ecologist with more than two decades of experience in applied research, ecological monitoring, and collaborative conservation, Kevin brings a rare combination of scientific rigor, geospatial expertise, and a talent for translating complex science into practical conservation action. His work spans fire ecology, forest restoration, wildlife habitat and corridors, and climate adaptation across redwood, mixed conifer, oak woodland, and chaparral ecosystems.

Most recently, Kevin served as Conservation Director at the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance, where he directed science, policy, and advocacy initiatives across the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and co-led the Teton County Human-Wildlife Coexistence Reports, which synthesized twenty ecological and socioeconomic indicators to guide land-use policy. Before that, he spent a decade as Research Director and Graduate Faculty with the University of Wyoming and Teton Science Schools, managing a diverse research portfolio and serving as the organization’s science champion across its educational programs, board decisions, and agency, tribal, and academic partnerships. His multi-year fire history study in Grand Teton National Park combined thousands of tree-ring samples with spatial modeling to help managers target fuel reduction where it best supported ecological restoration.

Kevin holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from UC Berkeley, an M.A. in Geography from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University. His geospatial work includes wildfire modeling for the Boulder County Community Wildfire Protection Plan and migration corridor analyses that informed wildlife crossing placement in northwest Wyoming, and he has published in journals including Ecosphere and the Journal of Biogeography.

As Senior Scientist, Kevin will oversee the Land Trust’s applied field research and data collections, advise staff and board on conservation research strategy, and lead the organization’s GIS work. A relationship-centered leader, he will strengthen partnerships with academic institutions, agencies, tribal governments, and local communities to ensure evidence-based science informs all of the Land Trust’s work.
