Since its founding in 1987 by Jane Davenport Jansen, Sonoma Botanical Garden has been dedicated to celebrating and conserving the plant diversity of temperate East Asia. The Garden is home to one of the largest collections of scientifically documented, wild-sourced Asian plants in North America and Europe. In 2021, this vision grew to encompass another biodiversity hotspot—California native plants. At first glance, the Garden is meandering pathways, seasonal features, and hidden picnic spots, but a closer look reveals much more. Every plant is accounted for with unique identifiers (accession numbers), species name, and source information. The result is a unique, tranquil, immersive experience of conservation in action.
Sonoma Botanical Garden has continued to grow and refine its vision over the years. With a healthy endowment, qualified staff, a strong board, and the recent development of a long-range site plan, the Sonoma Botanical Garden is ready to reach its next level of sustainability and impact.
