Outdoor Afro reconnects Black people year-round to our lands, water, and wildlife through outdoor education, recreation, and conservation. Founder and CEO Rue Mapp created Outdoor Afro in her hometown of Oakland, California, in 2009. Today, Outdoor Afro is the nation’s leading organization where Black people and nature meet, amplifying Black joy and connection in the outdoors.
This is a tremendously important time to join the organization’s board. Outdoor Afro has made historic and sustainable strides since its founding, achieving 10x growth in the last five years as the organization continues to mature. Serving on the board today is an invaluable opportunity to grow its strategic insight, ensure good governance, and build connections for funding, partnerships, and visibility.
Outdoor Afro seeks experienced, innovation-minded board members who can give time and resources towards Outdoor Afro’s governance, strategy, fundraising, and network-building.
