Jefferson County Greenway Foundation (JCGF) has chosen Darryl Washington as the new Chief Executive Officer. Washington was selected and approved by the Board of Directors and began his new role in May 2025.

Washington is a highly effective leader in economic and community development with strong ties in Birmingham and across the state of Alabama. He recently established and directed the City of Montgomery's Department of Economic & Community Development. Previously, as Director of Operations & Programs at Urban Impact Inc., he spearheaded an organizational transformation that significantly boosted fundraising on behalf of Black entrepreneurs in Birmingham. Earlier in his career, as an Economic Development Consultant for the City of Irondale, he was instrumental in drafting the City’s comprehensive plan, revitalizing its downtown, and launching modern business retention and recruitment programs.

Washington is no stranger to Jefferson County Greenways Foundation’s work. He was previously a board member at Ruffner Mountain where he helped to imagine the early concept of the unified Foundation. He is a longtime user of the parks and an avid supporter of the outdoors. Washington’s vision for the organization, coupled with his exceptional ability to connect with people, build relationships, and inspire support position him to guide Jefferson County Greenways Foundation to its next stage of success.
