Taylor Honrath has dedicated seven years to the stewardship of the Elkhorn Slough Foundation, most recently as Deputy Director. As founding Executive Director Mark Silberstein concludes his tenure, the organization sought a leader with the fundraising expertise, organizational vision, and strong commitment needed to guide it into the next chapter. Recognizing the significance of this moment in the Foundation's history, the board undertook a deliberate and thoughtful search process that prioritized careful planning, deep engagement with staff and partners, and a genuine commitment to ensuring mission and leadership continuity.
Throughout his tenure, Taylor has consistently demonstrated his fundraising expertise, notably leading the Elkhorn Forever capital campaign, which successfully raised over $13 million for vital land acquisition and habitat restoration projects in the Elkhorn Slough watershed. His extensive background in nonprofit management, advocacy for renewable energy policy, and involvement in state and national political campaigns have equipped him with the skills necessary to navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead.
Taylor's strong relationships with key partners, including those with the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, further enhance our confidence in the Foundation's future under his stewardship. The board worked closely with staff, partners, and advisors throughout this transition to ensure a diligent and careful transition, one that honors Mark's extraordinary legacy while positioning Taylor and the entire Foundation team for continued impact in the years ahead.
