Home / Executive Search / Environmental Volunteers, Executive Director

Environmental Volunteers seeks a strategic, creative, and insightful Executive Director who will work to grow the impact of this forward-thinking environmental education organization and ensure that its education and stewardship mission, partnerships, programs, and fundraising thrive as the organization evolves.

Environmental Volunteers (EV) is a highly-regarded non-profit that for 50 years has delivered environmental education to elementary school children with an emphasis on the underserved. EV’s volunteer-led school programs, community programs, and field trips have served more than 600,000 students thus far. EV is headquartered in the historic Sea Scout building in Palo Alto’s 2,000-acre Baylands Nature Preserve.

With the global focus on climate change, EV finds itself strategically positioned to play a larger role in encouraging curiosity and a love of the environment in young children. This is also a generational change, as young children today are passionate about preserving the environment they live in. EV sees this nexus of climate change and early education as a huge opportunity to play a broader role in enabling this generation.

As such, this is an excellent opportunity for a creative and mission-driven Executive Director (ED) to grow and lead the organization through these historic times for the climate movement. EV seeks a forward-thinking leader to drive the organization’s success and take advantage of this opportunity to grow the organization’s impact. The ED must be committed to EV’s mission with the leadership, fundraising skills, and proven experience necessary to accomplish these goals.

The ideal ED will have a track record of significant experience in leadership and management positions, including positions with operational and financial oversight, successful fundraising, and developing dynamic new programs and innovations to drive growth in impact. They may come from a variety of career pathways, including business leadership, entrepreneurship, academia, government, or nonprofits. Private sector experience is helpful. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with 10 years or more in senior management and relevant training is preferred.

Location

The Executive Director will work from EV’s headquarters located in the historic Sea Scout building within Palo Alto’s 2,000-acre Baylands Nature Preserve. Periodic remote work is possible. Regular travel is expected. Night, weekend, and irregular work hours should be expected on occasion as programming, fundraising, and other needs dictate.

Compensation

A competitive compensation package, including a comprehensive benefits package, will be offered based on experience. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $170,000–$200,000.
